Character Information

Name: William T. Spears.
Canon: Kuroshitsuji.
Canon Point: Chapter 65.
Age: Unknown, looks early thirties.
History: Wikia link.
Personality:

Serious, serious, serious.

Obvious from how he looks, he loves order. Once he has stated that something is supposed to be a way, he does not particularly like it when someone tries to get in the way of those rules. William appears to be ridiculously calm in any situation. Even when he is beating his subordinates for disobeying rules that had been laid out – he keeps a relatively bland tone as he is explaining just how much they have failed at both their job and life. To be honest, he has a rather polite way in speaking. Most of his words are littered with formality and politeness, even if what he is saying is not always particularly nice. He does not seem to mince words with people and gets straight to the point.

The constant touching of his glasses is really the only indicator of his various emotional states. He touches them when he is annoyed, or when he is nervous (anxious). Even if his glasses are not crooked or even threatening to slip down, he will adjust them if feeling either of the two emotions so that he could calm himself down, as it were. To give his mind and hands something to do. One could say that it is a mild case of OCD, as a means to remove all anxiety that he is feeling from the situation.

In some ways he is irrationally violent like randomly attacking people with his death-scythe, but his facial expression never changes during such. While it is mentioned that he is irrationally violent, it should be explained that he never actually hits the person that he is lashing out at – unless they had done something to warrant a hit. If it just seems like they are going to do something that he is against, he will send his scythe in their general direction to "spook" them back to the path of the right-and-narrow, so to speak.

He has a great disdain for demons and other such occult creatures. He absolutely will not touch demons as he considers them filthy creatures that will sully him if he does so. Not so much a fear of it, just outright hate. The reason that he dislikes them so is because they get in the way of his work. A demon steals away a soul that a Reaper is supposed to judge. This tends to create something of a hiccup in his work and he has to do overtime to fix it. Yes, he hates working overtime, because it indicates that he was inefficient in doing his job – or watching the job of his subordinates. It also means that he won't yet be forgiven. See, all reapers were once humans that committed suicide. For the sin of killing themselves, they have to look over human souls. It is a thankless job, and few seem to take it as seriously as he does, which means that William actually wants to finally die.

However, unlike most occult creatures, he does not actually know how to blend into normal society. He generally will openly talk about 'soul reaping' and 'demons' like it is talking about the weather. However, because of his rather stiff personality, most people believe that he is either joking about such things (being the straight-man), or just an occult fanatic. He will be quick to alert them that that is not the case, but no one seems to believe him even after he says that. This also indicates that as a human-being, he did not easily get along with others. Grell and everyone else, in some small capacity, are able to interact and talk to talk to the living without giving the impression they are too “different” from human. But all the same, he is a reaper and will do nothing to affect their timeline in any manner. They have to die when they have to die, and he will do nothing to stop it.

Note: Has a tendency to say the word 'honestly' a lot.

Abilities:

Reaper. Like demons – though mentioning that he is like them would not be wise, he too has inhuman speed, stamina, strength and dexterity. This includes, but not limited to "bullshit-jumping". "Bullshit-jumping" is the ability to hop ridiculously high in the air or off a tall building – or perhaps, use it as a means to get across an entire city within a few short minutes. It should also be mentioned that his balance is somewhat amazing as well – enough so that he can walk tightrope and other inane circus-like tasks.

It also is insinuated that the scythe of that reaper (or others) is the only weapon that will be able to kill them. That or a fight with any other supernatural creature that is of the same level that said reaper is. Of course, other than that fact, he is fairly normal – he has to eat, drink, sleep and will bleed if someone injure him. Ah, but it seems like he is a ridiculously light sleeper – so do not expect to be able to sneak up on him when he is sleeping.

It is never canonly stated, but it is assumed that William has the ability to "sense" the souls of other people. Meaning, he has the ability to tell who is a demon and who is not simply by looking at them. This is assumed because he was able to tell that Sebastian Michaelis was a demon the moment that he came on the scene. At the same time, he is able to ascertain the species of an individual in the same manner. What is meant by that statement is that he could sense if someone is around him. Like when Ronald Knox had quietly appeared behind him, watching him work; he was able to address who he was and know he was a fellow reaper without turning around. So, it is not just limited to knowing who is a demon and who is not.

Strengths:

+ Reflexes and strength. While he may look like a pencil-pusher (and well, he is), there does not appear to be anyone who can catch him off-guard with any sneak/sudden attack. His physical strength is no-joke, either. He has not been shown really taking someone on yet, which means all is displays of strength (e.g. catching and stopping a chainsaw thrown at him with two fingers) is not even his full potential.
+ Dedicated to a cause. If he's set to do something, it is going to get done. End of story. He rarely ever backs down, even if it is detrimental to him.
+ Order will be restored. He will always do what is lawfully right versus what is morally right. If he is in the wrong, he will make reparations even if it is to someone he finds repugnant.
+ Can work with anyone. Even if he doesn't like the person, even if he would rather not, he will work with whomever he needs to in order to get a task done. Sure, there may be some snipping (literal and figurative), but he would never do anything that would affect the success of the mission.
+ Will return all kindness back. He's very much a person who does not want there to be any debt between him and someone else – so long as it does not interfere with what he considers “right.”

Weaknesses:

- Emotionally cut-off. One of the reasons he seems so inhuman is because he cuts himself off from the emotions of others. He speaks as logically and rationally as he can, but the world itself is not so.
- Morally gray. That said, if someone is acting within the boundaries of the rules, he won't do anything against them.
- Straight-arrow. He won't ever break the rules or do anything to help anyone if it goes against "the rules."
- Short-temper. He ain't afraid to hit someone or chew them out if they're getting on his nerves. And it's easy to get on them.
- Prejudice. When he has an idea about someone, it is very hard for him to break the idea.

God/Shinki: Shinki.
Why?: Simply put, William follows the rules and enforces them to the letter. He isn't necessarily the one to make the rules, however. There is an order and a balance to everything; he will do everything to keep that balance. But Gods sometimes have to work outside those boundaries. Gods have to make decisions outside the parameters given, and he would not do so. It's not that he's a “follow” and should be a weapon, but more he isn't suited to be a God. He's more suited to remind a God of their purpose.
Cause Of Death: “Suicide.” He is finally forgiven for his sin as he gathers the last of the souls of the ship.
Vessel: “Deathscythe.” He will take the shape of his own deathscythe.
Name Location: Back of neck, just underneath hairline.
Power: Soul-pull. What it does is temporarily “pulls” the soul of only one individual that is hit. This means that both God and Shinki are able to see pieces of the person's history and secrets. This would naturally immobilize the individual that is struck, but again, it can only hit one person at a time. Also, if the person's soul is strong enough, they can deflect the attack.
